  5.     When the FT-990 program is selected thr OS/2ft990 window is opened with a 
  6. menu bar and the FT-990 Control Window. 
  7.     The porgram is designed to work with a mouse.  When in a window a TAB key 
  8. will move the control between items on the the selected window. 
  9.     This program works with both the FT-990 ROM version 1.2 and  ROM version 
  10. 1.3. The FT-990 ROM version number is displayed in the "FT-990 Control" window 
  11. (first window shown). 
  12.     This program provides several tools to make use of the  FT-990 easier. This 
  13. includes the FT-990 Control window which allows  setup of the FT-990 operating 
  14. conditions and incrementing of the frequency.  Menu item allow the following 
  15. selection. 
  16.       * File. 
  17.       * Comm. 
  18.       * FT Memory. 
  19.       * Scan. 
  20.       * Contest Log. 
  21.       * Scheduler. 
  22.       * Help. 
  23.     Each menu item displays a new window for control of the selected  feature. 
  24. The Contest Log and Scheduler are in a spreadsheet form. 
  25.     The "Comm." menu should be selected first and an RS232 port  selected for 
  26. correct operation. If a connection to the FT-990 is not  properly made an error 
  27. message will be shown. 
  28.     The following files are added to your hard disk by the installing  program. 
  29.     To your selected DIR. X 
  30.     OS2FT990.exe       50K Bytes. 
  31.     CA_Print.dll        47K Bytes. 
  32.     OBJ3D.dll         41K Bytes. 
  33.     Help1.hlp          11K Bytes. 
  34.     In Your OS/2 directory subdir. OS2 a new directory RLZRUN20. With     a 
  35. file RLZRUN20.rts of 704K Bytes. 
  36.      In your OS/2 subdir. DLL a file CABLE.DLL      of 582K Bytes.

  39. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Hardware Configuration. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  42.      This program was developed using a PC compatible computer , RS232 Cable 
  43. and the YAESU FIF-232 CAT System connected to the FT-990. No attempt  was made 
  44. to develope a separate interface circuit. Some vendors do provide these 
  45. kits/units  but no attempt to test these were made. 
  46.     This program allows use of Comm. 1, 2, 3, 4. Testing was done with the 
  47. mouse connected to comm. 1 and the FT-990 connected to comm. 2.

  53.      The software was developed on a 386-33MHz PC using OS/2 WARP  and CA 
  54. Realizer Version 2.0. The Help file was generated using the OS/2 Enhanced 
  55. Editor  provided with OS/2 WARP and CA Realizer supplied OS/2 Help compiler. 
  56.      The software provides user interface by standard windows and spreadsheet 
  57. forms. The first window shown at selection of the icon from the OS/2 desktop 
  58. is the main control window which allows selection of FT-990 operating 
  59. conditions.  In addition a menu bar is provided for other useful functions. See 
  60. the Help sections on  menu items.

  63. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. Getting Starting. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  66.          When the FT-990 icon is doubled click from the Program Manager window 
  67. the "FT Control" Window opens. Before continuing you must select from the menu 
  68. "Comm."  "Set Comm. Port". This will open a NEW window with Radio Buttons for 
  69. each port.  Select the port 1 through 4 that your FT-990 is connected. Click on 
  70. "Set Comm" to  set your computer to the correct port. 
  71.      This window will close and information on the setup line in the Control 
  72. Window will display Model FT-XXX, Ver ROM 1.X, Port# X. Where the X is related 
  73. to  your configuration. 
  74.      If a problem exists in the computer to FT-990 electrical connection a 
  75. message box will display an error message (see "Comm" help). 
  76.      On correct connection the Control Window and menu items should now 
  77. function properly. See the menu help item for their definition.}

  80. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5. FT-990 Control. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  83.      The FT-990 Control window is the first window to be  presented after 
  84. double clicking on the OS2FT990 Control window icon. This window  has 6 
  85. components, window title, information box, time, Select,  Freq. Control and 
  86. Current State. 
  87.      The title contains the version number and normal window controls. 
  88.      The information box is filled after the "Set Comm" has  been completed. It 
  89. contains the Model, ROM version and Comm. port number. 
  90.      The time box shows the current time as set in your computer. 
  91.      The "Select" has 3 drop down boxes that allow the selection  "Mode", "Band 
  92. Width" and "VFO". The "Send" button set the FT-990  operating conditions as set 
  93. in the 3 boxes. These setting may not be  the same as your FT-990 at power up. 
  94. To get in synch, select your  setting and press "Send". Also these settings are 
  95. not updated from the  "FT Memory" window - see menu item. 
  96.      The "Freq Control" section lets a frequency be selected and  sent to the 
  97. FT-990 by the "Set Frequency" button. The frequency must be  complete like 
  98. 28412320. In addition a drop down box "Del Freq." allows  selection of a step 
  99. frequency which increments the "Set Freq."  up ("Step +") or down("Step -") by 
  100. the steps selected in the "Del Freq"  box. The "Current state" allows setting a 
  101. repeater offset (FM only)  + offset button " Step +" , - offset button "Step 
  102. -". In addition two  buttons "tuner On" and "Split On" are provided. These 
  103. buttons need to be  synched to the FT-990 by just selecting once or twice 
  104. depending on the  state required. The button show what will happen when 
  105. selected, not the  present state of thr FT-990.

  108. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6. Menu Item File. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  111.      The File menu only displays the "EXIT" option. This closes the selected 
  112. port and shut down FT-990 Control program. 
  113.      If the "LOG" or "Scheduler" have been selected from the menus a flag is 
  114. set  which cause a messagebox to display. This allows going back and saving 
  115. data by the  "Contest LOG" or "Scheduler" menues. 
  116.      Saving program data is part of the Contest Log and Scheduler only. See 
  117. their  help menu items for further information.

  120. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 7. Menu Item Communication. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  123.      From the "Comm." select "Set Comm Port". This opens a new window  with 
  124. Radio Buttons for ports 1 through 4. Select the Radio Button for the port 
  125. connected to your FT-990. Then select the "Set Comm." button. 
  126.      This sets the selected port to 4800 bits/s one start bit,  8 data bits, no 
  127. parity and 2 stop bits (see the FT-990 manual). 
  128.      A read flag command is sent to the FT-990 to verify proper connection. 
  129. From the returned flag message the model (FT-990, FT-1000, FT-890) and ROM 
  130. version ( 1.2 or 1.3)is determined. A FT-? or ROM ? is displayed if the 
  131. expected  FT or ROM versions is not received. 
  132.      If the flag information is not returned a message box is shown   "Comm to 
  133. Ft-990 not operating no FLAG DATA".   If this occurs the RS232 interface 
  134. between the computer, FIF230C and FT-990  should be checked ie. power to each 
  135. is on. 
  136.  If a problem persist check YAESU Application Note AN-93201.  See the FIF-232C 
  137. manual for signal polarity.

  140. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 8. Menu Item  FT Memory. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  143.     Selecting "FT-Memory" then "VFO<>Mem" opens a "Set VFO" window.  The 
  144. following selections can be made from the buttons presented in the window. 
  145.              * VFO > Mem 
  146.              * Mem > VFO 
  147.              * vfoA = vfoB 
  148.      An input box is presented in the window which the memory value ( 1 - 90) 
  149. is placed. 
  150.      Selecting VFO > Mem puts the current FT-990 operating condition in the 
  151. selected  memory. 
  152.      Selecting Mem > VFO puts the selected FT-990 memory into the FT-990 
  153. current  operating condition. 
  154.      This data is not available to the program directly so does not appear in 
  155. the     "FT-990 Control" frequency box. An alternate method is to place your 
  156. data     in the "Scheduler" sheet which update the frequency box. 
  157.      Selecting vfoA vfoB set the two vfo's equal. 
  158.      The window can be closed by double clicking in the upper left corner. 
  159.      "Cancel" closes the "Set VFO's" window.

  162. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 9. Menu Item Scan. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  165.      The "Freq Scan" allows setting a frequency controls "Start Freq." an "End 
  166. Freq."  "Step Freq." which the FT-990 can be stepped through in the selected 
  167. increment.  A time interval in seconds "Step Time (sec.)" is selected for the 
  168. period between frequency  steps. The buttons "Step Forward" step in a 
  169. increasing frequency direction and "Step Back"  steps in a decreasing frequency 
  170. direction. 
  171.      The "Stop" button stop the FT-990 frequency changing process and allows 
  172. moving  to other functions(windows). The "Stop" button must be clicked to go to 
  173. other FT-990  functions or the step process must be compleated. 
  174.      The stepping can be continued after a "Stop" by selecting "Step Forward" 
  175. or  "Step Back". 
  176.      The "Reset" button allow entering a new set of conditions for the stepping 
  177. process 
  178.      To close this window double click in the upper left hand corner, this 
  179. window  is unique in this regard.

  182. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 10. Menu Item Contest Log. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  185.      The menu item "Contest LOG" has the following pull down menus. 
  186.                      * New 
  187.                      * Hide 
  188.                      * Show 
  189.                      * Save As 
  190.                      * Open 
  191.                      * Print 
  192.      When NEW is selected a dialog box opens which allows a title for  this log 
  193. to be entered. Click OK when title is correct. This title will be shown  on the 
  194. top of the new LOG sheet. This is not a file name. 
  195.      The new sheet's have the columns HamCall, Date, Time, Freq,  Mode and 
  196. BW(Band Width). 
  197.      The call of the first contact is placed in the first ROW under HAMCALL 
  198. When you hit "Enter"  the remaining data is extracted from your computer  (date 
  199. and time) and the FT-990 setup of Freq, Mode and BW from the "FT-990 Control" 
  200. window. The only action required to log a call therefore is to enter the call 
  201. under HamCall  and hit enter. 
  202.      The "HIDE" item takes the sheet off the screen and puts it in the 
  203. background.  The sheet could be sized to take up mimimum space and left on in 
  204. the window. 
  205.      The "SHOW" item return the sheet to the window after a "HIDE"  to allow 
  206. continue addition of log items. 
  207.      "SAVE AS" open a  typical windows box which allow saving the Contest Log 
  208. to disk. The default extension is .LOG. 
  209.      "OPEN" shows a window box which allows reading a Contest Log file  which 
  210. had been previously saved. A sheet can be "OPEN" and contacts added. 
  211.      "PRINT" prints the current "Contest Log"  window using the default OS\2 
  212. printer.

  215. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 11. Menu Item Scheduler. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  218.      The menu item "Scheduler"  has the following pull down menus. 
  219.                      * New

  226. scheduler to be entered. Click OK when the title is correct. This title will be 
  227. shown  on the top of the new sheet. This is not a file name. 
  228.      The new sheet's have the columns SCall, SDate, STime, SFreq,  SMode and 
  229. SBW(Band Width). 
  230.      The call/name of the first schedule is placed in the first ROW under 
  231. SCALL.  The remaining items in this row are entered (date and time) and the 
  232. FT-990  setup Freq, Mode and BW. The only action required is to double click in 
  233. the first column  of the call/name and the Freq, Mode and BW information will 
  234. be sent to the FT-990.  If you double click in column 5 (Mode) a box will show 
  235. the correct Mode input for  the Mode Column. Each row of information is added 
  236. to complete your scheduler. 
  237.      The "HIDE" item takes the sheet off the screen and puts it in the 
  238. background.  The sheet could be sized to take up mimimum space and left on in 
  239. the window.
